This is a great property to watch the abundant wildlife or to launch your personal kayak. With its private beach, spacious grassy yard and media room, you will not run out of activities here.

The living room on the main floor is adjacent to the dining area and kitchen, with very comfortable seating and equally stunning views of Haro Strait and Vancouver Island. (The fireplace in the living room is not for guest use.) The living room is equipped with satellite television and a DVD player to gather around the cozy armchairs and large couches. Games and books are available as well.

The gourmet kitchen is a chef’s paradise. With a fully stocked supply of pots and pans, cutlery and spices, you also get to enjoy the spectacular water view directly from the kitchen.

The downstairs media room has a large flatscreen TV for the Satellite TV. Apple TV for streaming services is also provided on the flat screen. The media room also has a fold-out couch, full kitchen, and a private bathroom with walk-in shower. Wireless internet is available throughout the house and all of the three levels have outside seating on the deck to enjoy the beautiful sunset here on San Juan Island's Westside.

The primary bedroom encompasses the whole 3rd floor and has its own seating area with an electric fireplace and King-sized bed. The en suite bathroom is open to the bedroom so you can still enjoy the expansive view.

The other two bedrooms are located on the main floor on either side of the entry hallway and share a full bathroom, also located in that hallway. Both main floor bedrooms are equipped with a Queen bed, and one of the bedrooms also has a cozy daybed.

Enjoy morning coffee on one of the three decks, or take the stairs down to the beach to relax against a log while watching the sun set each evening.
This very comfortable home is the perfect place to enjoy the views on the westside of San Juan Island!

Professional landscaping service occurs at this property every Wednesday.

Fire pits are not usable from May 1st-September 30th due to the county burn ban and safety of property and neighboring areas. Ban is usually lifted October 1st if/when conditions and weather are favorable. Firewood not provided.

Pets are not allowed at this property.

This house has low cell phone service. Once checked in, you can get onto WiFi at the house.

  We had a lovely stay. The home was so comfortable, and a perfect layout for our family - we have two kids in the downstairs bedrooms and the upstairs bedroom was a fantastic retreat for us! The bed up there was so comfortable, I usually don't notice that one way or another, but it really stood out. The hot tub had an amazing view and was easy to use and access right from the main level. The private beach was a treat, the kids loved throwing rocks in the water and exploring. Great yard too, lots of room to play both inside and outside. Top notch place!

  This house was lovely for our family visit! The location was incredible and we saw whales everyday, multiple times per day. The house was clean, beds comfortable, and space for our kids to play. We used the primary closet as their “bedroom” and it had plenty of room to spare. The decks were beautiful and property gorgeous. My kids were content playing in the tide pools all day and we were able to SUP right from the beach. Couldn’t have been a better spot!

From the moment you hit the harbor and drive the winding roads to the home, it is like stepping into paradise. When you pull into the property, the view is stunning. The house is clean and very comfortable. We had one rainy and cold day and were so content to stay at the house and have a cozy day inside. It has everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. The hot tub was super clean and just the right temp. If we ever have the chance to return to San Juan, we would have to stay here or it just wouldn't compare. Do yourself a favor and book this house!!! As a side note, the property management team was spectacular. So friendly and easy to work with. They even helped us with restaurants and suggestions of things to do on the island. Seriously, it was the perfect vacation!

  We rented this house along with a 3 other couples for Memorial Day. We booked it for the view, the hot tub, and space to play outdoors and it did not disappoint. The sleeping arrangements were plenty suitable for a group of our size and there were ample spots for afternoon naps. The property was in good condition and quite clean when we arrived. There were plenty of options for running laundry and well-stocked cleaning supplies. We would highly recommend this property and management company. This property is really close to Roche Harbor and the drive between is littered with farm stands, bucolic pastures, and an alpaca farm! We ate lunch at Lime Kiln Cafe and highly recommend the donuts. We are already dreaming about our return!

We saw a pod of orcas swim by our first night, eagles on the tree at the point every sunrise, seals come to nap on rocks that emerge at low tide every day and even otters frolicking around .   We had a post-holiday getaway/birthday weekend at Whale Watch Beach Retreat and it was absolutely incredible. We couldn't get over the view, it is SPECTACULAR!! Breath-taking, entertaining, and changed every day based on weather. You see Canada, the Olympic Mountains, tons of birds, seals every day, we swear we saw a whale, and so many bald eagles.
  
  The house is immaculate, furniture and appliances in perfect condition. The rooms were a nice size and the kitchen is huge and very well appointed, we love to cook and always bring some knives and utensils but this time it wasn't needed! The house is covered with nice soft carpet but no shoes are allowed inside so bring some house shoes. Everything was VERY clean when we arrived. Beds were super comfy too!
  
  We loved checking the tide pools every day at low tide. The hot tub was also a hit, super clean and in great working order, overlooking the water and mountains. The yard is also gorgeous, pristine grass with plenty of birds and even a few deer. There were outdoor games like croquet and badmitten to play. We used a kayak too–they are in a shed by the beach and are in perfect shape. Fun to see the seal from the water!
  
  We took hikes at English Camp and Lime Kiln Park, got oysters at Westcott Bay, and meandered around the island roads looking at the farms. Everything was within 10-15 minutes of the house.
  
  We really lucked out with January weather, it rained in the morning/at night but was sunny and lovely during the days. It was the perfect place to go during covid, we barely saw anyone!
  
  Only recommendations:
  1. Bring a Brita pitcher or some bottled water to drink, even out of the fridge filter the well water is not tasty.
  
  2. The house needs a large door mat at the back/living room door to the deck. There's a very small area to remove shoes and no where to wipe them off.

This is a great family home and it sounds like you and your family were able to enjoy all the fantastic aspects of this spacious house. If not accustomed to drinking well water, you are correct that the taste can be different. That is a good tip to provide a matt on the deck and definitely a suggestion we can pass to the homeowners. Please note that the kayak found in a shed on the beach is not for guest-use and the owners of the home simply forgot to lock up their shed, and unfortunately we are not able to provide kayaks for guests due to the strong tides and currents surrounding the San Juan Islands (liability and safety issues).   This is a great home! It has tons of space, comfortable beds, and a beautiful kitchen. But you can't beat the view!!! Lots of yard, they updated the steps to the beach since our last stay making it much easier to get to the beach. We saw a family of otters a couple times - one even ventured up to the lower deck. There was also a seal and heron in the bay. We had a lot of smoke from the fires on this trip, so missed the great sunsets and often couldn't see very far at all, but despite that it was still a great week!   The Whale Watch Beach Retreat was the perfect antidote to the outside world of pandemics and politics for our extended family of eight in August of 2020. The house was beautiful and also very functional. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to prepare wonderful meals to enjoy at the large dining tables both inside and out. We did not miss dining at our usual San Juan Island restaurants when we could dine at home with everything, including an exceptional waterfront view, we needed close at hand. Everyone, grandkids to grandparents slept well on very comfortable beds. The secluded and private beach provided us with hours of relaxation as well as fun tide pool explorations. There was plenty of space both indoors and out for big family gatherings or quiet alone time. The house is conveniently located for excursions and activities all around the island. We were treated to a swim by of a large transient orca pod. This was a special highlight because we had been forced to disappoint the grandkids and not schedule a whale watch trip due to CoVid concerns. The four year old declared it the best day of her life. Our family has rented many homes for vacations stays. Whale Watch Beach Retreat raised the bar for family gathering spots quite high. We will be returning to this wonderful home.

  What a wonderful house! Just driving into the gate made us instantly happy. The property is off the beaten path in a lovely part of the island. Fantastic views and great access to a private beach!   This vacation rental was everything we dreamed of. We were taking a sisters trip with 4 of us and we picked this house for the location and hoping to see Orcas. We cannot say enough about the stunning views and we were able to see Orcas and other whales along with other wildlife off the deck of this beautiful home. The home is very large which was nice to have our separate areas to relax. The private beach was also a nice treat since you felt very secluded. We also kayaked, biked and took out a whale watching boat. We enjoyed seeing the Orcas from the kayaks, so we felt really luck to have seen so many whales during our visit.
  We definitely hope to return to San Juan Island and if we do, we plan to book this home.

  We had a wonderful time even though the orca whales were only on the west side of the island for a day -- but we saw them from the house and Eagle cove. Marvelous weather + a great retreat home = perfect vacation. Saw eagles, sea otters and seals daily from the deck.

  This was our 3rd time visiting San Juan island, and it will go down as my favorite. The home is amazing. Perfect for hosting our group from around the Northwest. The weather was a little rough over the weekend, so the open spaces, large kitchen and dining areas were perfect for our group. Not to mention the great view, and hot tub (perfect for all weather). I would definitely stay here again!

  had a great time at whale watch retreat. saw humpback whales from deck, and orcas and seals, and otters. property is well kept. house is well appointed and comfortable. televisions need updating. 4 TV's in the house, and the only one that had satellite was on the lower level. the others played dvd or vhs (really, who has vhs anymore?)also, fireplace was not for guest use. and the snaps in the carpet need to go. I can't tell you how many times I stepped on those things and hurt my feet. I just think that at this price point, $600/nt, I expect to have cable on all the tvs and be able to use the fireplace, and to walk on the carpet without it being a painful experience. address these issues and I would stay here again. but there were other homes I saw that looked just as nice for less money. this property has huge potential. all things considered, these are minor issues and did not detract from a wonderful experience.

  We had a wonderful time at Whale Watch Beach for our 30th anniversary. The location is probably the best on the island if you want to tour all over. Very clean and comfortable. Quiet and secluded. The only thing we'd suggest is that the screws in the carpet be removed. We stepped on them several times in bare feet and it's quite dangerous. We were very confused about why they were even there and in such high traffic areas too. It would have been nice to have an umbrella on the deck as well as kayaks, as this is a wonderful spot to launch from. Otherwise, everything was perfect.

  We had a great time at the Whale Watch Beach Retreat. Great house and location. We saw Orcas, River otters, Harbor seals and Bald Eagles from the deck almost every day. Only nit were the snaps in the carpet throughout the main floor (no idea why they were there and stepping on them was not fun).

  My Family celebrated my our 36 wedding anniversary at Whale Watch Retreat - This was a trip of a Lifetime! We watched Orca's and Seals every day, the salmon fishing was great. The best part is the Views from this property.....Magnificent. The house was clean, tastefully furnished and everything we needed. We would love to return in 2016 - I would strongly recommend this property!!

  This is a fantastic property in a great location. The house was well maintained and had all the necessary amenities you could want. The beds and furniture are in great shape and were very comfortable. We used the spa nightly and it worked great. The neighbors were very friendly and even took my son out fishing and crabbing. The views are out of this world and we saw whales a few times each and every day right from our deck. We saw more whales from our deck than we did from the whale watch boat tour. Really enjoyed kayaking with Crystal Seas out of Snug Harbor as the tour goes right by this house and right into the J Pod. I would highly recommend this property and it is well worth the money we spent to rent it for the week. The only drawback was the garage in the picture was locked and not for guest use. I would also like to see satellite TV on the main TV and not just on the lower floor where you spend very little time. The only other recommendation I would suggest is for an 11AM check out instead of the 10AM checkout as 10AM was a tad early. Overall, a great location that is in terrific shape in a wonderful location. Can't go wrong with this home and we can't wait to go back next year to sit in that spa with a glass of wine and watch the whales go by. We were VERY satisfied and would all highly recommend this property.

  Five brothers from around the country met here for long weekend retreat. This location was just amazing! This house was recently refurbished and has wonderful amenities.   This is a wonderful house, well set up for a family group or for couples traveling together. Lots of room for everyone, well appointed kitchen made cooking easy, and the media room on the bottom floor is really impressive. But not as impressive as the view across the straight to Vancouver Island! And we saw lots of sea life - seals, otters, and best of all a pod of Orca whales! The private beach is accessible by a set of stairs, there is a large grassy area to one side of the house, and sitting in the hot tub on a cool evening is wonderful. This is certainly a place we'll come back to!
