Whale Watch Point

Whale Watch Point - Waterfront! The Whale Watch Point guest house is a slice of heaven - watch and listen to the orca whales meander by, enjoy one of the best views from land of the Limekiln Lighthouse, and sit back and relax gazing out to the wide open Haro Strait.

The guest house is beautifully and tastefully furnished. Walking through the main entrance will place you with the cozy, well-stocked kitchen to your right, the water-view dining table to your left, and the comfortable living room in front of you. The living room is equipped with a flat -screen TV with satellite TV service. There is also Wi-fi offered. Down the short hallway off the living room, guests will find the stackable washer/dryer closet, situated between the bedroom and extra sleeping room.
The Full bathroom is also found off the left side of the hallway.

Enjoy an exquisite panoramic view off the deck, day or night this view will take your breath away!

The grounds of property are a wonderful representation of the island landscape with madrones, firs, and rocky knolls that include trails to sitting areas where you can enjoy watching the marine activities.

Guests will enjoy all the nearby hikes, parks and beaches including: Limekiln Lighthouse and Whale Watch Park, Deadman's Cove, San Juan County Park, Pelindaba Lavender Farm, or Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm.

  We have stayed at Whale Watch Point in 2022 and 2023. It’s a lovely location, perfect for viewing orcas when they are in Haro Strait. Last year I couldn’t sleep well, got up in the wee hours and heard the blows right off the deck. It was pitch black so it was only the loud blows of what seemed more than 15 whales. It was a peak moment in my life. They must have found fish since they stayed more than 20 min. I recorded it and still listen to it frequently. The guest house is immaculate, comfortable and very private. Perfect place to read, study and watch wildlife. I strongly recommend it.

  We loved our stay at Whale Watch Point. The cottage is on a cliff overlooking the Lime Kiln Lighthouse. The private setting is in a green moss covered forest and the wild animals graze right next to you. It is a short drive to Friday Harbor for the shops while being secluded enough to avoid crowds. We were very sad to leave this magical little place. Would definitely recommend it for folks who like peaceful natural settings.

  A fabulous location overlooking Lime Kiln Lighthouse. The snow capped Olympic Mountains were out in their glory. Although no whales passed by, we were entertained by fox, bald eagles, and deer. The house is well equipped for simple cooking and equidistant from Roche Harbor (where we kayaked) and Friday Harbor (where we had dinner).

  Thoroughly enjoyed this rental - the location and setting was just what we were looking for. The descriptions and photos are accurate. Communication with the management company was good - they were always timely to respond. We saw a couple of pods of orcas one day along with otters and eagles and the resident fox! The weather was decent for the area - cold and windy and it rained off and on - but we expected that in the PNW.

  We really enjoyed the view and layout of the house. The kitchen was fairly well equipped, but it is quite small so I would bring any key cooking accessories you need, ie there wasn't a blender or any sort of glass/ceramic casserole dish. This house definitely works well is you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of Friday Harbor, which is about 25 minutes by car. The beds were comfortable and the amenities perfect for a relaxing stay.

  The property description was accurate regarding the location and views. However we found the high bank, steep and very uneven yard space hard for us 70s aseniors to safely navigate so our outdoor time was spent on the small deck. Parking for guests is away from cottage, so walking down or up the steep driveway can be hard for older guests. The property is very clean and well maintained and both queen beds were very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking items and easy to use. My only suggestions for I,provements, would be installation, of a hand towel bar or ring and at least one or two wall hooks in bathroom to allow multiple guests to hang up towels and allow a place for clothes to be hung up when showering or bathing. We recommend this property and would stay here again because of its beautiful quiet location. No we did not see any whales during our mid May visit, but enjoyed the fox, and hummingbirds every day. We visited Lime Kiln lighthouse several days, going back for sunset photos which were fantastic. Also visited Cattle Point and walked out to the smaller light house there. We drove to Roche Harbor and enjoyed this beautiful area having a great lunch at the Lime Kiln cafe. Then due to a ferry delay on departure, we had lots of time to walk around Friday Harbor and have lunch before boarding the ferry. This was a great experience!

  We adored the view of the lighthouse and looking out across the water as big ships headed through Haro Strait for Vancouver and the west coast refineries. For us, it was magnificent to get a big snow, absolutely magical. The owner feeding the resident foxes was also a big treat (very nice people, she even brought us Valentine chocolates and wine!). There were some very minor items that we reported to the property management company and we're sure they will be fixed. Smallish but perfectly adequate kitchen for us cook fanatics. We even roasted a chicken we'd brought along. It was a delightful place to be snowed in!

The property (and its views) are stunning, and the guesthouse is private, comfortably appointed, and well outfitted (though the knives could use some sharpening and a baking sheet would be nice to have).   We searched hotels and even B&Bs throughout the San Juan Islands. The prices were average and so were the views and noisy surroundings. We wanted magic, not mediocrity. We wanted spellbinding views and a quiet peaceful paradise. We wanted to be surrounded by mostly nature and watch wildlife, not be surrounded by mostly man-made structures watching people shop. In short, we wanted to get away from it all and relax in peace. If I said we received exactly what we wanted, it would definitely be an understatement. This extremely unique property, and these constantly awe inspiring views, and the melodic sounds of nature and the serene solitude and the gentle wildlife, far surpassed our expectations! The entire two weeks we were here for our 25th anniversary, it was like we were in the most amazing dream! The cool breeze and sunshine felt so good with the windows and doors open every day, and the iconic views of Lime Kiln lighthouse were truly captivating. We loved watching the bald eagles in the cliffside trees, and the family of deer gently walking around the yard each day. The house is at the end of a long wooded driveway so it’s very private. If you’re willing to spend a little more than you would at an average hotel, then you’ll definitely experience an unbelievable amount more! We’d give this property 100 Stars if we could!!! Absolutely loved it!!!

  It was a long 3 months leading into San Juan's Whale Watch Point and we needed to get off the grid. This is the place to do just that - relax, rest and rejuvenate! The property was everything as described. The bed was comfy, the towels were soft, and the kitchen was stocked. The views just don't stop and the wildlife is incredible. Deer are everywhere, saw a family of raccoon and 2 different foxes. I hate to leave "MY BENCH" but I will be back! The only downside was the directions to the property, but with some pictures and description that I sent, the property management is working on those. Note to self: If you have gone past OTTER LANE you have gone too far!!

The kitchen was well appointed and the in-unit washer-dryer was very convenient. The guest house is very private and set away from the main house. The view from the kitchen, living room and deck was breathtaking! The ocean was so close we could hear the waves! By day we had beautiful view of the lighthouse and water.   We absolutely loved the location of this property. The drive from Friday Harbor is scenic and just gets more and more breathtaking as you get closer to the property. Secluded feel....deer seem daily.....phenomenal views. Close to lighthouse, hikes and other attractions around the island. Home was very clean and nicely furnished. Has a TV and DVD player but no DVD’s. Seating on the balcony was nice and that was where we spent most of our downtime. Property borders steep drops down to the ocean so I wouldn’t recommend for those with young children. Also be aware that the owners live in s house on the same property. Parking was a bit confusing. The owners clearly didn’t want us parking in the driveway to the home but it was unclear where they wanted us to park. Owner or visitor cars were in spots that we assumed were for us. Confusing signage. Might be a nice touch to supply DVDs, used books and/or board games. Blankets/throws would be nice too, for hanging out on the deck during chilly evenings. Overall though, a very quiet, tranquil, beautiful location to spend s few days.

  This is the second time we've stayed at Whale Watch Point. This place is so clean and cute we just love it! Well appointed (how about a pizza pan to add to the lot?). The property has grown quite a bit as far as vegetation, so the picture used is not quite accurate. The trees have really grown. But you can't beat the deck, we were out there alot. Watching the lighthouse at night is such a treat. The beds are super comfortable. Only one suggestion: The parking is a bit confusing. Signs saying you couldn't park on the lot, but had to park up the road. Then up the road it said no parking. We were never sure we were parked in the right spot. But this is our go to house. Love it.

  We are a family of 3 and it was a great place to stay for the few days we were there. The rooms and bathroom were good size and very comfortable. The kitchen had the basic supplies needed and the living area was quaint. I would have appreciated a little more comfortable chairs by the inside windows and the outside patio furniture was a bit old and uncomfortable for long sits. The area was surrounded by beautiful trees and deer. Of course the view of Haro Strait was amazing!

  If you are looking for some privacy and quiet, some amazing views, and access to the entire island... this is a great spot for you. The house is pretty small, but perfect for our family of 4. This is a guest house, across the driveway from the main home, but it still feels apart from everything else. Within fifteen minutes of arrival, a pod of 5 Orca passed by. The following morning, 2 more. Grab a cup of coffee and sit on the patio, and watch the bird show. Walk down to the edge of the cliff, and watch dolphin, orcas, seals, and ships. Then, it is still a reasonably short drive back to Friday Harbor, Roche Harbor, American Camp / Granny's Cove / South Beach, the Lavendar Farm, or the Alpaca Farm (my kids loved every one of those stops). The house is a great home base, and it was very well equipped. Few rental homes are this well loaded with the little things (cleaners, paper towels, etc). Every time we needed something, we found it. As the owner will tell you, GPS gets a little confused near the house, but getting a little off-the-GRID is great.

  We loved our time at Whale Watch Point. It's a spot that's hard to leave because the view is absolutely breathtaking. I will say that you should know that you are sharing it with the owners who are in the house very close by. They couldn't be more accommodating but you should also know that the view you see on the website is on the bluff in front of the owners house. It didn't matter to my husband and myself and we were very thankful that they share this wonderful place. TV wouldn't matter that much to us but we were there during a University of Oregon Duck game and were very happy that I brought my computer because there was no sound on the TV? I think it would be smart to upgrade the TV. Not a place to bring kids or families but we would love to come back during the whale watching season!

  The view from this property is truly gorgeous. Yes, I was actually brought to tears when we walked in and saw the view for the first time. It that wasn't wonderful enough, within 90 minutes we had orcas, including breaching orcas, right out front. Magnificent!! My husband and I enjoyed the most relaxing times just sitting on the deck gazing at the view, lighthouse, boats, ships, etc. And wildlife was abundant - from the deck we saw orca, harbor porpoise, harbor seal, eagle, deer and a quick visit from a hummingbird. One day we were out exploring the south end of the island and found out when we returned that the orcas had been by three times in two hours! You won't want to leave for fear of missing something :) On top of that, the accommodations are wonderful, comfortable, super clean. Not to mention the lovely owners. And numerous tv channels, for those who care about that. This is the perfect getaway, we were so sad to leave and are already planning our return visit!

Use of the extensive Grounds. A 5-10 minute drive to Lime Kiln State Park - and an easy drive to Town. We saw Whales nearly every day - sometimes within feet of the edge of the property.   We enjoyed our stay at the Whale Watch Point. It is a beautiful place. Very clean and everything you would need. To be able to look out and see the Lighthouse is so peaceful. The whales come right in front of the place when they are here. It is a bad year for the Whales with not enough salmon. Enjoy the beauty all around you. The reason for a 3 star on the maintenance there were workmen there for 2 days outside the door because of the septic tank. We know things like that can't be seen, but it did take away from the peacefulness. Other than that it was perfect.

  Thank you for making such a special property available. We couldn't pull ourselves away from the beautiful views and spent the bulk of our vacation on the property. From the deer every morning to the bald eagles buzzing the house, the property is a nature lover's dream! We had an absolutely wonderful time and the accommodations met all expectations. There was only one small inconvenience; there must be a sump pump or water pipe in the back wall of the one bedroom and it was so loud that it woke us up a couple of times one night (it was raining hard that night).

  We stayed here for a very enjoyable week in early August. It is a cozy home in a very quiet and beautiful location. Saw orcas at least once a day (hint - find the Lime Kiln hydrophone online and you can hear them, sometimes before you see them!). Wish we'd found the steps to the water earlier in our stay - would have been even better whale watching. Wifi worked well. We brought our own travel grill, but would be nice if there was one on the property. Also would like to see some bathroom hooks/bars for towels. The kitchen is pretty basic - could use scissors, rubber spatulas and turner. We love going out to the great restaurants on SJI, but with this view we wanted to dine in as much as possible.

  Whale Watch Point was the most beautiful location that I could imagine on the island. Seeing whales swim by was a daily activity. The deer also came right up to the house. The problem was that it is NOT easy to find and I would not try it in the dark. Would also have been nice to hear from the Management Co or owner at sometime to just check that all was OK. The house is cute and 3 people fit well. The TV is literally a 12 inch box with no available channels but really who goes there to watch TV. A good ways into town so you must have a car to do anything on the island.

  The house was a perfect place to get away from the world and relax. The view was spectacular. We had deer in the yard daily. Golden eagles glided in and out right in front of our deck. The house was comfortable and well stocked. My only complaint was the lack of a nonslip bath mat on the slippery bathroom floor and a hook in the bathroom to hang clothes on. Don't go if you plan to watch TV on the tiny little screen with almost no channels available, but who would go there for that? It's a great adult place to go for peace and quiet and lovely views. Day trips are easy since the island is so small. You can be anywhere in a matter of minutes. Take a book. Enjoy the views and the sunsets. Just relax.

  The rental property itself was clean and had thorough explanation via cards that detailed finer points of the location. We were not "bothered" by the owner and management called and let us know when the property was ready for us check in.

  The home was as shown in the pictures. Just beautiful view and lovely grounds. The apartment actually attached to the garage and the main house is just on the other side of the property. This did not impact our stay at all. Wonderful kitchen, nice bedrooms, would have liked a better TV, but with that view its hard to complain! There is no WiFi at this location, which would have been a nice touch so we could research activities and restaurants and such. Overall though, beautiful home.

  When I initially made the booking I was worried that it might be a little small. We had 4 adults and an infant and never once felt cramped. Lots of windows makes the space feel bigger.

  It was hard to take our eyes off the incredible view from the deck of this guest house. We saw & heard orcas pass by daily as they swam and played in Haro Strait. The friendly owners pointed out a path which led to a bench with unobstructed view of the water. While relaxing there we saw whales & a bald eagle flew right over our heads. In addition we saw deer and a small black fox in the immediate area. A scenic drive from Friday Harbor & it's restaurants & shopping, this home was very clean, comfortable & well equipped. The only thing my husband & I wished for besides more days at Whale Watch Point was a little bigger television (it's tiny). But, while the sun is up you'll be looking out the window at that view.

  First evening, I saw eagles, Orcas and deer. The view from the deck toward the Lime Kiln lighthouse was fantastic. The water was so clear close the bluffs, that I could track the Orca under the water. Loved the location, loved the place, and loved the owners of the property. I'll be back!

  The little cottage is very cute and extremely clean. The kitchen was adequate but there were a few things we could have used. The beds are very comfortable. The view and the setting are simply amazing. The big ships in the ocean, the lighthouse, the wildlife and the views make this a great choice. There were lots of black tail deer and bald eagles around. If the whales were around, this is a great place to view them. The price is very fair. It is about 20 minutes from Friday Harbor and if you are planning to eat all meals out, this would be a consideration.

  We were so happy with our stay. The house was clean, updated, lots of windows to see the lighthouse and the deck was great to sit and watch whales, eagles, deer. The owner who is next door is very nice showed us where to find the bluff (of the picture on the right.) That was so relaxing to sit and watch the whales. We had such a great trip would go back again. The only thing I would suggest to add to the house is in the bathroom towel bars or hooks there is none. And the left side bedroom had no dresser that was functional and no closet to hang clothes. It was just the 2 of us so we used the other bedroom to store our clothes. I am so happy to have found this rental.

  This was our third visit to this lovely getaway, the weather was great, the orcas swam by daily albeit offshore quite a bit, but I love the peace and quiet this place provides us. Guests should know this is really off the beaten path and very private and quiet so if you want an easy walk or short drive to town, this isn't the right place, so plan ahead. Only drawback for us was the small number of pans to cook with and no cutting board, so plan to bring specific cooking items if you plan to eat in. Kick back and relax if you choose this rental for the TV is tiny and no internet access so you are forced to just chill (which is a good thing!).

  Fantastic location on San Juan Island. Close to Roche Harbor, near Friday Harbor, peaceful, quiet. Views of Lime Kiln Point including the lighthouse. Accommodations were cozy, clean and comfortable. We say Humpback whales, Orca whales, Harbor Porpoises, Red Foxes, Deer, Harbor seals, Steller Sea Lions and even a Balk Eagle-ALL from this property.   Over all a great place to stay, 20 minutes or so to Friday Harbor, so something to consider. Views are great. Home is nice. The kitchen is a little tight for any more than one person. Could use larger, non stick fry pan, and a baking dish of some kind. Also a larger TV would be a big plus.

  Whale Watch Point was amazing. The views were stunning; the location private, yet just a short drive to the parks or to town.   We saw orcas the morning of our first day. We had just discovered that our car battery was dead, and San Juan Property Management was kind enough to send someone to jump start our car.   What a great find! The perfect place to view whales! You can see Lime Kiln from your kitchen window. I love this place, very well appointed, clean and just beautiful. Comfy beds, nice kitchen and updated. Only suggestion is let the guest know that the garage and a BBQ was not available to use. And maybe a map to let you know where you can go on the property as the trails are not really posted. But the binder was very helpful. We are definately coming back to this house!
