Orca Beach Hideaway

Waterfront! Hot Tub! Nearby Sandy Beach! The Orca Beach Hideaway is a private waterfront 3 bedroom home with expansive views of the Olympic Mountains and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. This secluded San Juan Island home offers a hot tub, a nearby trail head to a beautiful sandy beach (rare in the San Juan Islands), a large grassy yard and wrap around deck, a wood burning stove, and a ping pong table. The special location of this house offers an amazing view spot for the local wildlife. Guests can also enjoy the hot tub (serviced professionally on a weekly basis), the large yard, and provided yard games. You'll enjoy amazing sunrises and sunsets, and possibly experience whales swimming by, which is almost daily during the summer months!

The kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel appliances and a gas Viking range. The kitchen is open to the dining and living room with large windows looking out to the sea. The main level of the home has 2 bedrooms each furnished with queen size beds. The upstairs primary suite is furnished with a queen size bed and has a balcony with water views as well as an adjoining primary bathroom. There is also a crib and toddler bed available upstairs for those with young children.

The lower level of the home offers entertainment - ping pong table and flat screen television with a Smart TV and Roku. There is a sleeper -sofa located in the lower level as well. This home also offers wireless internet.

This is a wonderful family vacation home; however, parents please take caution of the steep terrain at the end of the large grassy yard.

Orca Beach Hideaway is located next to a unique island beach (Eagle Cove) which is great for swimming, sunbathing, skim boarding, and paddle boarding.

Firewood is provided in off season.

The hot tub is serviced professionally on a weekly basis.

Pets are not allowed at this property.

This house has fair cell phone reception. The Wi-fi at this property is adequate for making calls on your personal cell. This home also has a landline.

The internet / Wi-fi at this house should be sufficient for streaming video, phone calls, remote work and video conferencing.

  We loved the location, within walking distance for hikes and beaches.The yard was large, the hot tub was terrific, hot and ready all the time. The kitchen was very well equipped. We saw orca whales swimming by the house. Two different fox came to visit in the evenings. We took full advantage of all the area has to offer: a short drive to both Roche Harbor and Friday Harbor to wander through the town and have something to eat, the Alpaca Farm, a whale watching tour and more. The house itself had plenty of room for our family of 6. We stayed a week, it was a wonderful experience!

  I fell for this property online. The views are breathtaking. The beach next door is so fun to comb over. The American Camp next door provides endless paths to walk on. The house itself is lovely. Nice that it was close to the American Camp and a beach--on the clear day we took walks to those 2 places. The only problem we had was that firewood at the house was wet and burned only with a roaring fire going.

  My wife and I rented this house for a vacation with my two oldest children and their families (3 pre-teen boys). The house was even better than described and was a perfect place for a getaway.
  We were able to enjoy daily walks down to Eagle Cove Beach and to American Camp, and then relax in the hot tub in the evening.

  Everything about this rental was great for our needs. We had three couples with children under 3 and the house worked well for managing them. We liked being located near a couple nice beaches and the ability to take some day trips around the island. House seemed very private. The only thing off was the windows were quite dirty, but there had been a windy snow storm the day of our check-in which could have attributed to that. Extra kudos to the management company for their great communication and allowing both early check in and late check out.

  I visited with my family of 6 including a 14 month old and 5 adults. We had an amazing time and were able to see from the house orcas, fox, deer grazing in the yard, and bald eagles. The beach is a short walk and we kayaked there (We brought our own kayaks). The house was clean and very comfortable. It has plenty of room to cook and relax inside, as well as, outside. The infant gates were a bonus to keep the toddler from going up or down the stairs. The outside porch provided him a safe running area.We recommend the Port and Chocolate store and the Seafood shop in Friday Harbor.

  The views are gorgeous, and the home is lovely and inviting. Lots of room for families to play and enjoy themselves. We had visits from a red fox, a raccoon and several deer.   As a family of 5, we prefer rental houses when on vacation and Orca Beach house was the best house we've rented yet. The location is outstanding. We visited several beaches on the island, but the one near the house was our favorite.
  
  
  The house itself had room for everyone. It was clean and in good repair. The furniture was comfortable. The kids loved playing downstairs and the ping pong table got a lot of use. The binoculars and telescope were great touches. Towels, sheets and blankets were plentiful. There wasn't anything that we needed in the kitchen that couldn't be found. All appliances worked great.
  
  
  We loved the wildlife. We saw several deer, a raccoon and at least two foxes made daily visits. We saw bald eagles from the house every day. We were thrilled to see 4 orcas swim by.
  
  The management company was great to work with. We got emails clearly explaining the check in process. We accidentally locked ourselves out of the house and someone was there quickly to let us back in. Check out was easy as well.
  
  I can see from reading old reviews that the home owners and/or management company do care about the feedback they receive, so I have a few suggestions. A door mat inside the front door would be great. We tracked sand/dirt onto the tile every time we came in, so a mat that we could have used to catch some of it would have been helpful. I was glad there was a broom right near there and we used it several times because I didn't want that beautiful house to be dirty. A keyless door lock would have been nice. There are instructions about the hot tub and how to treat it with chemicals, but there were no testing strips, so we had to guess and hope for the best. Finally, I know that it's hard to keep windows clean and birds or storms come along all the time. We cleaned them up some, but better supplies for that purpose would have been nice.

  We were very impressed with the property management's responsiveness. There was a minor issue with the heating upon arrival, and when we communicated that, Chris - the property manager contact - addressed the issue and came out to ensure that all was working okay (after asking if we were okay with coming out.) He also texted the next day just to make sure everything was still good.
  
  The kitchen is very well appointed - wonderful cook's stove and other amenities. The hot tub overlooks the same beautiful view, as do two of the three rooms. It's close to Friday Harbor for a quick trip into town for forgotten supplies, but the property itself is very private.
  
  The only suggestion would be to improve the seating in the downstairs entertainment room for movie watching, but it was great having a ping pong table and we all had a great time while there.

  The rental is in a fantastic location. We sat overlooking the Salmon Bank, watching seals, river otters, and orcas many times during our stay. It was a treat to have the neighborhood fox stop by, and look expectantly as us.........until it realized we were not going to feed it.

  This house was amazing! It had everything that we needed. There were six of us and we did not have a complaint! We saw amazing wildlife and spent quite a bit of time watching all the deer and foxes. We had the power go out and then the internet did not work. The property management company was responsive and came out and fixed the issue with the internet right away (the power outage was not just the house but the area..a bird in the transformer...). The cove was wonderful and we spent a bit of time there. This property felt like the right location for accessing other areas of the island. This is definitely a place we want to come to again!

  Superb house, superb location. A wonderful vacation experience in all aspects. Easy to understand binder from SJPM, very helpful. Would definitely stay again. Three itmes:
  * dishwasher: did not know how to start it; could not find any external switch or lever.
  * bathroom sink drains in upstairs bathroom: when pushed down to close the drain, how to open it? could not find any mechanism to open the drain.

  The location of this property is amazing. That's assuming you love watching Orca whales swim by multiple times a day, foxes playing in the yard, raccoon standing on their two feet, deer hanging out, and bald eagles flying above. If you don't you are dead inside and shouldn't have come to San Juan Island in the first place. The front yard is huge. The living spaces are very nice and all face the water. There is a beach right next door (a short walk down the hill). The ping pong table got some major use. I don't think we ever turned on the TV. Everyone in the group already wanted to reserve the house again for next year. We had a great time and can't wait to come back next year.

  Eagles all day everyday. Saw whales from the deck. The house is wonderful, just as described. Although it may have had a pet in there at some point. Noticed it downstairs in the TV room, would be nice to have a TV upstairs in living room. Quiet, secluded, amazing.

  The property and location was perfect. Amazing views all trip and having American Camp up the street was perfect. I would possibly add a channel guide to the TV downstairs and maybe add a small tv to the main floor or master. Small additions but we'll be back again for sure. Loved it!

  Our group of 7 (including little kids) was thoroughly satisfied with our stay. Watching both the sunrise and sunset from the adirondack chairs overlooking the water was a highlight, as well as the deer, eagles, fox, and raccoon we spotted from the deck. A truly great place for a group -- good walking trails nearby, wonderful sandy beach down the public path next door, expansive yard for frisbee and soccer, and a cozy kitchen/dining/living area that easily accommodated everyone. We definitely plan to return. We had one maintenance issue with the hot tub when we arrived and the mgmt. company was immediately on top of it and fixed it right away. Very professional, we were totally satisfied!

  The Orca Beach Hideaway exceeded our expectations. The photo's do not do it justice. The sunsets are breathtaking and the size of the house is impressive. The living area / kitchen is big enough for many people to relax comfortably. The cove below the property is perfect walking distance away and provides endless amounts of entertainment. The wildlife was amazing too! We spotted deer, quail and bald eagles. Finally, the property management could not have been better. There were a few parts of the house we could not figure out, and they were very accommodating in helping us get things working. I will definitely come back here!

  My family, husband, two daughters and husbands spent a wonderful three nights at the Orca Beach House after Thanksgiving. It is everything and more than the description, very quality bed linens and the kitchen is very well stocked and also has quality appliances etc.
  The scenery from the Living room and Master Bedroom is spectacular and the fireplace in the living room makes it very cozy in cold weather. We had a fun experience of the electricity going out one afternoon and I called the Property Manager and he was very attentive and came by with lanterns which really helped as we could only find three old candles at the house. But we were just fine and with the fire we stayed very warm until the power was restored after 3 hours or so. Oh! I almost forgot the ping pong table in the basement is so much fun for a group who like to play like my family. Also there are a lot of good hikes in the area and the little town of Friday Harbor is great, it has some very cute little shops and restaurants. I would highly recommend this house.

  Only problem was the hot tub not having choline available to add , the total chlorine was very low. I am a certified pool operator for 17 years so would have like to use the hot tub but could not find any chorine to add.

  We had a wonderful stay, wildlife was abundant and the Orcas came to feed every day! Accommodations were clean, comfortable and all in working order. We were amazed that we did not have to clean the barbecue grill before using and the rest of the place was equally spotless. The beach was sandy and had lots of space for everyone. We will definitely stay in this location again and highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys outdoor activity and beautiful ocean views.

  We had 5 adults and one baby spend three nights in the Orca Beach Hideaway home, and it was an incredible experience. The view was spectacular, and we saw bald eagles, orcas, fox and deer every day. It was so neat to see these animals right out of our window! A short walk down a wooded path leads straight to the beach. Our pictures all look like postcards!
  
  The house was clean and beautiful. We especially liked the big table in front of the windows, spacious kitchen, BBQ grill and the deck/hot tub. We brought our car over on the ferry, so we were able to explore both Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor and places in between. We had lunch in town each day, and picked up groceries to cook/BBQ at night. It was an easy drive to anywhere on the island, but it was so nice to come back to the quiet, beautiful Orca Beach house.

  I rented this property for a weekend getaway with 6 other friends and we had an amazing time. The house was very spacious, clean and had an excellent amount of games. The view was gorgeous and we loved having a big yard. The beach was close by and we were lucky enough to get some visits from some local foxes. I would and have recommended this property to friends and clients, as I'm a travel agent. We can't wait to come back!

  This house just insists on the relaxation of its guests. The location out on a point with a large lawn looking out on the water and the Olympics could not be beat. And the house is spacious and bright. On windy stormy days, we were in no rush to get outside. We played games, read books, played ping pong and used the hot tub while the weather cleared. I can only imagine coming in the summer when the orcas are in the area! This really was a special getaway and we really hope we are able to come back again one day!

  We enjoyed staying this beautiful home. The overall experience was great with just a few minor exceptions. For future guests please note that the control knobs on the two ovens were switched. We had a bit of a challenge using the ovens until we figured out the problem. Also of note, we had one guest who is allergic to dogs. We mistakenly thought if we chose a property that was pet free, she wouldn't experience any difficulty. However, the owners have a dog and her allergies kicked in during our stay. We now know better to ask about the presence or past presence of animals in a property. All that being said, I would be happy to rent this property again with friends without dog allergy issues. The company managing the property was quite good and prompt at answering any questions I had.

  Although we spent our days visiting the island, it was nice to know we were coming back to spacious rooms, a secure and secluded location. Nice for quiet lazy mornings, for those looking for privacy this place is perfect. The beach is a short walk down the trail. Nighttime visitors by the local racoons brought fun entertainment!

  The house is perfectly appointed for a family vacation and the location is terrific. We had four adults and two children, 9 and 11. The house is furnished well: beds were comfortable, the towels were thick and ample, the kitchen had all necessary equipment, the downstairs ping pong table and large TV were well used. The windows across the first floor, looking out onto the large front lawn, the water and the view of the Olympic pennisula were the subject of interest and beauty throughout the day. As advertised we saw wildlife: orca whales, elephant seals, bald eagles, racoons, red and black foxes, racoons and many other birds. The children loved the cove with the driftwood, rock cliffs & tidal pools. The notebook with information about the island resources was terrific and we used their suggestions to visit Lime Kilm Park, the English & American Camps, and Roche Harbor & for bike & kayak rentals, and restaurants.

  Fabulous house and location. Wonderful for families. But the kitchen needs attention. There was no lettuce spinner. The pots and pans were in appalling condition. Buy an inexpensive set of Farberware, which wears forever, and forget about cheap nonstick pots which get scratched immediately. No serving spoons or forks, so if you did manage to make a salad, there was nothing with which to serve it.

  The Orca Beach Hideaway was just the spot for our family vacation. We are a family of 5. The 3 kids are young adults and also enjoyed the property, including the ping pong table, flat screen tv and hot tub. The view is amazing. We had a front row seat for the J pod visit on May 22. We could see the whales from the house and could easily walk down to the beach/rocks to get a closer view.
  Some of the kitchen utensils were not as clean as could be and required washing. A screen door on the master suite balcony door would have been nice. A garage door opener for the car would have also been a nice addition.
