Acanthus Suites - Farmer's Suite

Located in Downtown Friday Harbor! 2 Bedroom Full Bath and Kitchenette. 2 Queen Beds. Walking Distance to the Ferry.

The Farmer is one of 5 separate Suites to rent among the Acanthus House. The Farmer is a roomy 2 bedroom suite on the ground floor of the Acanthus building. This suite has a Queen bed in each bedroom, a full bath, gathering area and kitchenette. Many like to enjoy their morning coffee or afternoon beverage from the comfort of the communal front porch. A Smart TV and internet are available for guests to log-in to their preferred streaming services.

Guests will find that one block from Acanthus Suites will bring you into the heart of downtown Friday Harbor, offering many delicious restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, ice-cream shops and art galleries, all within walking distance. On Saturday mornings the local San Juan Island Farmer's Market is a 5 minute walk from the Acanthus Suites!

Any or all Acanthus Suites can be rented for different group sizes!

The Acanthus House is one of Friday Harbor's first important historic homes. Built in 1913, it was a wedding gift for a wealthy merchant's daughter. It has been beautifully restored. Located in historic downtown Friday Harbor; only 3 blocks from the ferry dock and Port of Friday Harbor and is an excellent option for those coming to explorer the island and have a comfortable place to rest at night.

The Acanthus House does not have Air Conditioning.
The unit does not have laundry facilities.

The internet / Wi-fi at this house should be sufficient for streaming video, phone calls, remote work and video conferencing.

  Overall, great. A few nits -- no, wait, I'll call them "suggestions for improvement" -- but on the whole a nice, comfortable stay. A large choice of eateries and pubs within a short 5 to 10 minute walk. The house was our base of operations during a three day motorcycle exploration of the San Juan Islands. Suggested improvements: bathroom fab noisy and ineffective, quits after running for five minutes. Replace the fan. Water is a "precious commodity," yet it take 3.5 minutes of running the hot water tap to get the water warm, let alone hot. Insulate the pipes. Finally, pick up some used books and leave them lying around. It adds to the ambience of the old comfy home, and gives people something to read while waiting for the slow person to take their shower.

  Loved the rental, it met all our needs with two teenagers who ran to the sea a few times. We were able to walk pretty much everywhere,very close to the ferry lines. The house was sweet and a little fox even came to visit our last evening.

  This place is adorable! The beds are really cozy, and I absolutely love all the windows. The bathroom is large, and the kitchenette is perfect for a weekend. There is a little dining room with a few chairs. My only suggestion is to have a small love seat in the dining room for hanging out on cold evenings. We loved sitting in the yard and on the porch when it was warm enough though!

  3 of us stayed for 3 days and it was very enjoyable. The beds were super comfortable and the location wa great. Everything was as described in the listing.
  My only question would be why the small gathering room is not set up better to accommodate guests more comfortably. A small couch and a chair with the TV on the other side would have been much better in the evenings.
  But all in all we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

They market themselves as an affordable and convenient option and they delivered on that promise. It was the most affordable place we could find and was right next to downtown.   Decided on a last minute trip to see friday harbor and chanced upon this property (rental places were mostly booked!). The unit was able to keep a lot of the original finishings which are nice but was also updated to make the property in great working condition. We loved the location, especially the closeness to the brewery which is probably one of the few restaurants that stays open late. My son loved running around the front yard chasing bubbles (the front yard could use more maintenance though). We barely heard the other renters during our stay, so we got good night’s sleep. Overall, wonderful experience!

  We were very happy with our time in the Farmer's Suite on the San Juan Island. Everything from the communication to the cleanliness, size of the suite, location, amenities were all as advertised. We were extremely pleased with how much room we had. Having 2 bedrooms and a living / dining area was great! We loved how close we were to everything and the ability to walk almost anywhere. The property management company went above and beyond to make sure we knew when we could check in (it was actually ready early) and even called after we checked in to make sure everything was ok. They also emailed us discounts for whale watching and kayaking. This was by far the best management company we have dealt with. Thank you! We also enjoyed reading the history of the house and even though there are other suites on site, we never heard the other people. We can't wait to come back to the island and would definitely stay there again.

  Ancanthus Suites is one our favorite places to stay when visiting San Juan Island. The location is walking distance to the harbor, restaurants, and shopping. Suites are clean, comfortable, and quiet and we always feel safe. The pet-friendly Fisherman's Suite is our preference (we love to bring our fluffy malamute) but we also like the Farmer's Suite; it is very roomy and full of charm. Would stay at any property managed by San Juan Property Management as they do a great job :) Highly recommend!

The only problem was there was never any hot water in the bathroom sink, yet there was another sink in the suite and the shower had plenty. I would definitely stay here again.

  I cannot say enough about how wonderful our stay was. We immediately were thrilled with the location and were able to walk to do many places each day. The house is the definition of charming - beautifully decorated, clean and included anything we need and more.
  The only suggestion I would have if asked is that lighting could be added along front walk and to parking area.
  I personally am currently a fall-risk due to eye surgeries, but I still feel lighting would add to the charm as well.

  The Farmer's Suite was so cute! Love how this house has suites with different themes and décor and would love to see some of the others. Did catch a glimpse of the Explorer Suite and it looked very nice as well. Did not realize that we had an electric skillet with which to cook until the last day but had kind of planned on eating out most meals anyway, knowing ahead of time we had a kitchenette. Attention to detail was everywhere and much appreciated - décor kept with the theme throughout the suite. There were only two of us so we had no problem with mirrors. Close to town so it was very easy to walk everywhere. TV worked fine. You could definitely hear the people in one of the upstairs suites, but it's to be expected in a historic house such as this. Also, no fault of anyone, but we happened to pick dates where it was very smoky and hot while there, due to a large fire burning in British Columbia and a high ridge of atmospheric pressure - made for a hot, muggy and smoky couple of days but we still enjoyed. Nicely done and would stay here again.
