Sunrise and Sunset House

Waterfront home with a hot tub and views of Spieden Island. Sunrise and Sunset House. Your quiet home away from home, located just one mile northeast of Roche Harbor village, is waiting! The perfect spot to escape from the mainland, away from traffic noise and crowds and ease into 'island time'.

1 dog per reservation. The dog is not to be left unattended. If a dog is left unattended and a neighbor calls to complain, renter will be charged a $200 fee. House trained. Weight must be less than 60 lbs. No pets on furniture. The renter assumes responsibility for all extra cleaning needed such as emergency carpet cleaning, furniture replacement, and or emergency laundromat use for bulky items like comforters and pillows. The dog must be house trained and on-leash while outside.

This home is comfortably appointed throughout. The kitchen has been stocked with ample cookware! The entertainment has also undergone an upgrade and now offers DISH for PAC-12 network and local channels.

This home is perfect for a quiet and relaxing family getaway (not suitable for parties or large gatherings as it is located in a quiet neighborhood)

The house sleeps 8 comfortably, with two large living areas. There is a fully equipped kitchen with separate dining room, three bedrooms, and three bathrooms. The upstairs of the home offers a large bedroom, but is split to allow privacy between the 3 twin beds on one end and the Queen bed on the other. Television and internet via satellite. The entire back of the house faces Spieden Channel and there is a wraparound deck complete with a hot tub that can accommodate six.

All you need to bring is your clothes and your food - everything else is at the house: linens, cookware, utensils, towels, etc.

Bird watching will result in seeing bald eagles, Oregon juncos, American crows, gold finch, northern flickers and a variety of seagulls.

Deer drop by often on the property and there have been many sightings of otters, Dall's porpoises, harbor seals, and yes, sometimes the resident orcas pay us a visit.

Our home is only 12 miles from Friday Harbor, where the ferry lands. There are plenty of opportunities on San Juan Island to visit historic landmarks, go shopping, stroll around museums, attend a live theater performance, listen to music, hike grasslands or mountains, go fishing in fresh water or salt, walk on a beach, ride a horse, participate in a zip line, attend a farmers' market, learn about the island, explore thrift stores, lose yourself in a bookstore, chat with the friendly locals, sail into the sunset, eat like royalty, commune with nature, and sleep like a baby.

**There is a mandatory quiet time of 9pm-9am and it is strictly enforced. There is to be no audio/stereo outside. **

The internet / Wi-fi at this home has been upgraded to fiber-optic internet. It should be sufficient for streaming video, phone calls, remote work and video conferencing.

  We stayed at the Sunrise and Sunset House for a long weekend and wish we could have stayed longer. The house has a great layout for our group of five. The location near Roche Harbor was magnificent. We saw all kinds of wildlife from the deck. The home was clean upon arrival and the decor is warm and inviting. The mattresses on the main level beds are very firm. Great for those that prefer that, although I prefer a somewhat softer mattress myself. We ate most of our meals out since our visit was so quick, so we didn't use any of the kitchen appliances, other than the fridge and coffee maker. We would definitely stay here again.

  Our group of 5 and a pup had an amazing stay at Sunrise and Sunset House. The highlight was the amazing view from the deck, where we watched porpoises, sea lions, and bald eagles pass by often. We loved the quiet neighborhood and a short walk to a small beach where we took some quick refreshing swims. Sleeping accommodations, living areas, and the kitchen were all great. We wish we had more intel on the amenities: we had to bring our own shampoo, kitchen knives were dull, and we added to the pile of ~1,000 coffee filters that don't really fit the coffeemaker. Overall amazing stay.

  Everything was pristine. We had a great time and truly enjoyed the house and property. Directions were great and they went out of their way to make sure the house was feather-free (I'm highly allergic). The one thing I'd say is that it takes about :25 to get to town, so if you want a busier feel, this probably isn't the right property. However, it is next door to Roche Harbor and we went there a few nights for activities so that was great.

  We had 4 adults, 2 children and a dog staying in this home and it was more than enough room for all. The upstairs bedroom with 3 twin beds doesn't have a door on it, so we moved the kids to the downstairs bedroom and that worked out better for us. Also, the upstairs bathroom is a bit small to share with anyone staying in the upstairs rooms. The area is super quiet and the people we saw were very friendly. Quick walk to a beautiful beach. The views from the deck can't be beat! We were so exited to see otters and porpoises from the deck, deer in the yard and tons of eagles without having to leave the house. The hot tub was perfect on the windy and cold spring days. FYI there are VHS movies and DVDs in the house, but no way to play them. The kitchen has plenty of space and is well stocked. We cooked all meals at the house over our 6 day stay. We enjoyed some of the provided board games and puzzles (the Lego puzzle was our favorite). We loved our family vacation at this house and look forward to coming back in the future.

  This house has a very generous layout, was impeccably clean, and has a view that cannot be beat. Perfect for two families, or a large family. We loved the secluded location, serene view, and the large array of games provided to pass the time in this peaceful space. Despite it being out of the way, it was never more than a short drive to town. There were some small issues with the dishwasher and hot tub, but it appeared to be due to the previous tenants, rather than poor maintenance by the property managers. The management was extremely responsive and proactive to the few small issues we experienced. Looking forward to staying here again once it's safe to do so with friends.

  My group of seven girlfriends totally enjoyed our stay. The fabulous deck and hot tub allowed us all to be together, enjoy the view and wildlife and relax. The house is older and if I were reviewing it to buy I’d mention several things I believe need to be replaced or updated but as a vacation rental it was great. Everything worked, the kitchen was. very well stocked, the beds comfortable with enough space for everyone . The location was perfect and I really hope to return.

  This is a very ample house in a great location, with a dramatic view. It's clean and pretty well-maintained, though its 1970's roots certainly show through, including in its odd layout. I would stay here again. As a family of five we had more than enough room - you could have two families here quite comfortably. Small stuff: The heater controls are a bit frustrating, the heater is a bit loud, the fireplace is cramped and no kindling or matches are supplied. The hot tub could be hotter and the electric fire in the family room is not easily controlled. Furniture could be reconfigured to take better advantage of the view. Some of the bathroom fixtures were a bit shaky (i.e. towel rods that seemed to be pretty fragile). But I'm reaching here. It's really a very nice place. The big window and lovely deck are as lovely as they appear in the pictures.

  We were 2 senior citizen couples who spent 4 nights at Sunrise and Sunset House. The house is lovely, with picture windows and a great water view. The house was bigger than we really needed but chose it for the special location. The living areas, kitchen, bedroom, and bathrooms were generally well furnished. The upper queen bedroom and bathroom lacked a couple of amenities which have been communicated to the management. The house was very clean.

  We have stayed on San Juan Island many times in different rentals and this may be our favorite so far. It's a beautiful house and you can't beat the view of the sunset in the evenings.   We rented this house for our family over the Fourth of July. The view was spectacular. Whales, seals and boats passing by and sunsets to remember.
  Hot tub was delightful. Could have used a working cork screw. We are experienced with both types provided but they were not in working order.
  The house is located on a very very dangerous cliff that drops off abruptly to rocks and the ocean below. The brush obscures the actual edge. Children should never be allowed near the area. It would be nice if there was a fire pit up on the upper levels of pavers. A sign describing or marking the edge would be very helpful.
